God is good!

I first met Safe Haven earlier this year when they opened for Pillar at one of our LA Galaxy Faith and Family Nights. Not only were we all blown away by how AMAZING their music is, we feel so blessed to have gotten to know them and are so inspired by their huge hearts. Check out this email we just got from Safe Haven's Mani, and what they're doing in Guatemala. If you'd like to learn more about Safe Haven (they're from La Mirada), check out http://www.myspace.com/safehaven. Merry Christmas!!!

We're undoubtedly grateful for such a year like this one and especially for the memories, friendships, and dreams come true.

Every Year we travel to Guatemala(Central America) as a band and family to Help, Share, and Aid the Casa Hogar Orphanage in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. We Share Christmas with them and we cook a special Turkey American Dinner that they Love so much! We even have Santa Clause come to Guatemala and each child receives a gift. Thankfully this Year we have fundraised throughout the year with various Safe Haven Live Love Concerts and we're doing something a lot bigger. With the Help of the band's supporters, sponsors, and friends... Mike Eldred @ Fender Custom Shop Donated Six Guitars and Truth Soul Armor donated tons of Clothes for the Kids! We will be taking the Kids to Amatique Bay Resort December 22 for a whole day(It's like raging waters with Great Food, Activites, and Musc). Also, Every Child will recieve Shoes, Clothes, and Backpacks/School Supplies for next year! Along with Santa Clause, Gifts, and Supplies... We'll be sharing the awesome Love that God has for them :) We're super excited! To make things even better, We'll be having a Fireworks show aswell for them and like tradition we'll be singing "Feliz Navidad".

I really wanted to share this attempt to bring Hope to a Nation that it's nature is to believe that they are hopeless! Not anymore, We'll also being a doing a Large Outreach Event in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala and we're just so Overwhelmed to see it's growth! I can't believe, God is undescribable!

God Bless You! We Hope to see you Next Year :)

MercyMe Gets A Grammy Nom!!!

It’s a good week to be MercyMe:

-MercyMe has been nominated for their second GRAMMY® Award with their #1 Single, “You Reign” for Best Gospel Song, which was also co-written by Steven Curtis Chapman. The band was first nominated in 2007 for their COMING UP TO BREATHE recording.

- In addition, Bart Millard’s second solo offering, HYNMED AGAIN was nominated for Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album.
“In response to the nominations, Millard commented, “I am so excited for my brothers in MercyMe and Steven Curtis Chapman! Apparently scrambling to get "You Reign" on the album, at the last minute, was the right decision! To perform at the Grand 'Ole Opry, and then to have HYMNED AGAIN receive a GRAMMY® nod has made the past two weeks a dream come true! Pardon me while I go buy some cowboy boots.”

Tips To Help You Sell Your House

Thanks to our friends at The John Tesh Radio Show (heard at 7p every night on 95.9 The Fish) for these awesome tips!!!

Home sales may be down almost 16% from last year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sell yours. Here are some tricks that’ll help you find a buyer for your home (since it only takes one!), from Woman’s World Magazine:

First- how about curb appeal? If you have a walkway, paint it. Buyers typically decide within 10 seconds of arriving at a home whether to go inside. A dingy, concrete walkway leading to the front door makes a house look more like a commercial space – not a home. So paint your walkway in a sandy to light brown shade. Warm colors are proven to appeal to buyers. Also, simply dousing with a power-washer could spray away years worth of grime from the outside of your home. It’s also cheaper than a fresh coat of paint.

When buyers come to look at your home, park your car on the street so the driveway is empty. Also, put away the garden hose, garbage cans, and any of your kids’ toys. A car and other personal items left in front of a property send the message that “someone else lives here.” So, removing them makes it easier for buyers to visualize themselves as the occupants.

Speaking of cars, know this: At the top of most new buyers’ wish lists is a garage or carport. So if your home has neither, research the cost of a carport online. Then tell the buyers that if they agree to pay full asking price, you’ll credit them with the price of a carport. Buyers are often enticed when it seems like they’re getting something for free.

Now, let’s move to the inside of your home. Here’s how to enlarge a cramped bedroom: You’ll need a small lamp and a large mirror. Just hang the mirror on one wall, and plug in the lamp directly across from it. The light will bounce off the mirror and reflect back. Immediately making the room appear larger.
Remember the “rule of 3” – no more than three things on any flat surface, whether it’s the mantel or the kitchen counter. Too many knick-knacks can make a room look crowded and they make it harder for a buyer to imagine what their items will look like in the space.

Share this, and get someone excited to see a big SOLD across their front yard and tuning in to The John Tesh Radio Show!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Official Proclamation Signed by George Washington

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

Stay Safe In The Mall Parking Lot

Here are some tips from our friend John Tesh to help you stay safe on Friday!

Plan to hit the stores on Black Friday? Then take heed of some parking lot intel, from AAA, to be sure that's all you hit!

Where are you most likely to get into a car accident? Would you believe – in a mall parking lot? Parking lots are like the mosh pit of driving. People seem to do whatever they can get away with. Blatantly break the speed limit? Take up two spaces? Ignore the lane markings altogether, and blaze a trail across the empty parking lot? In fact, according to AAA, on a per-mile basis, drivers have more fender benders in parking lots than anywhere else. So, here’s how to handle the parking lot madness, and protect yourself and your car:

First, parking-design expert Marty Worden says that angled spaces along one-way aisles are the safest parking spaces. You have traffic coming at you from only one direction, and you have better sight lines when you’re backing out.

Next, take advantage of the “barrier islands." The cement curbs between the rows that keep motorists from cutting across the empty lot. Don’t park in the end space along a barrier island unless there’s an “end cap.” Otherwise, you’re vulnerable to moving traffic from the side and from the rear.

People prefer to park near a mall's main entrance, or the biggest stores. Which means, the faraway “fringe” parking spaces are usually empty. So, stick to the fringe, where spaces are plentiful, traffic is light, and the risk of collision is minimal.

Finally, pay attention when you get out of your car. Listen for the sound of cars starting up, and watch for the flash of backup lights so you’re not surprised when someone pulls out. Stick to the pedestrian marked paths. Just because the fastest way to get where you’re going is to cut through six aisles of parked cars, doesn’t mean it’s the safest way to go.

Lara's Brainbuster

Q: Where is the #1 place to get into a car accident?

A: The parking lot at the mall! Check out some tips above from John Tesh to stay safe this weekend when you shop. Crisis In Haiti

This is an article from www.yahoo.com that absolutely broke my heart. I hope that you will read this, but I must warn you that it is fairly graphic in its description of what is happening to children just a few hours away from the coast of the U.S. Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers, and if you can, sponsor a child through World Vision. Email your full name, mailing address, and phone number to me at lara@thefish959.com, and I'll send you an info packet, bio, and picture of a child who desperately needs your help. Thank you!

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The 5-year-old teetered on broomstick legs — he weighed less than 20 pounds, even after days of drinking enriched milk. Nearby, a 4-year-old girl hung from a strap attached to a scale, her wide eyes lifeless, her emaciated arms dangling weakly.
In pockets of Haiti accessible only by donkey or foot, children are dying of malnutrition — their already meager food supply cut by a series of devastating storms that destroyed crops, wiped out livestock and sent food prices spiraling.

At least 26 severely malnourished children have died in the past four weeks in the remote region of Baie d'Orange in Haiti's southeast, aid workers said Thursday, and there are fears the toll will rise much higher if help does not come quickly to the impoverished Caribbean nation.
Another 65 severely malnourished children are being treated in makeshift tent clinics in the mountainous area, or at hospitals where they were evacuated in Port-au-Prince and elsewhere, said Max Cosci, who heads the Belgian contingent of Doctors Without Borders in Haiti.

One evacuee, a 7-year-old girl, died while being treated, Cosci said, adding: "The situation is extremely, extremely fragile and dangerous."

At a makeshift malnutrition ward at a Doctors Without Borders hospital in the capital, 10 emaciated children were under emergency care Thursday, their stomachs swollen and hair faded by pigmentation loss caused by malnutrition. Several had the puffy faces typical of kwashiorkor, a protein-deficiency disorder.

Five-year-old Mackenson Duclair, his ribs protruding and his legs little more than skin stretched over bones, weighed in at 19.8 pounds, even after days of drinking milk enriched with potassium and salt. Doctors said he needed to gain another five pounds before he could go home.
Dangling from a scale mounted from the ceiling, 4-year-old Venecia Lonis looked as limp as a rag doll as doctors weighed her, her huge brown eyes expressionless, her hair tied with bright yellow bows.

Mackenson's grandmother, who has raised him since his mother died, said she barely has a can of corn grits to feed herself, the boy and her 8-year-old granddaughter each day.

"These things did not happen when I was growing up," 72-year-old Ticouloute Fortune said.
Rural families already struggling with soaring food prices in Haiti, the Western Hemisphere's poorest country, lost their safety nets when fields were destroyed and livestock wiped out by the storms, which killed nearly 800 people and caused $1 billion worth of damage in August and September.

U.N. World Food Program country director Myrta Kaulard said she fears more deaths from malnutrition in other isolated parts of Haiti, and search and medical teams were fanning out in the northwest and along the southwestern peninsula to check.

The World Food Program has sent more than 30 tons of food aid — enough to feed 5,800 people for two weeks — into the remote southeastern region since September, and other groups funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development have sent food as well, she said.

But the steep, narrow paths and poor visibility make it difficult to deliver the food to the mountain communities where hunger is worsening. In one case, a WFP truck flipped over while struggling up a hill and slid into a ravine, killing an aid worker.

"There is always a bottleneck. The same situation that the people are facing is the same situation we're also facing," Kaulard told The Associated Press Thursday.

Haiti in general and the mountain villages in particular have long suffered from chronic hunger. Child malnutrition rates have been high for years — the WFP reported in 2007 that nearly a quarter of children were chronically malnourished.

Remote rural areas in particular grow only enough staples to feed themselves less than seven months out of the year, Kaulard said.

But throughout the year, aid workers and officials have been seeing hunger get more severe, and now people who live in the mountains and aid groups who are working there say the situation is worse than it has been in the past.

This year, for instance, Haiti's agriculture ministry estimates 60 percent of the harvest was lost in the storms nationwide. Land quality is already poor and farmers lost seeds for next year when the storms hit, Kaulard said.

Effects of the storms vary widely from village to village and even family to family. In some places, food supplies seem intact. In others, Doctors Without Borders has found rates of severe malnutrition as high as 5 percent.

Aid shortages may soon compound the problem. Donor countries have funded only a third of the U.N.'s $105 million aid appeal for Haiti following the storms, and resources could run out in January, Kaulard said.

At the hospital Thursday, Enock Augustin sat beside the bed where his 5-year-old daughter Bertha was sleeping. The fragile-looking child was evacuated by helicopter Nov. 8 with vomiting and diarrhea. When she arrived, nearly a quarter of her body weight was due to fluid retention, a sign of severe protein deficiency.

The swelling gradually receded as she was fed nutrient-enriched milk and treated with antibiotics and anti-worm medicine; she shrank to just 21 pounds.

She has since gained about two pounds but can't go home until she reaches 26 pounds, doctors said.

For months, the Augustin family had gotten by despite the soaring prices of corn grits and imported rice because they grew potatoes, which they could eat or barter for plantains, yams and breadfruit that did not fluctuate with the world market.

But then, in August, Tropical Storm Fay hit, followed by Hurricane Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike.

"Every time a hurricane came through, it killed our animals and plants," said Augustin, a father of six. The road was washed out, markets became unreachable and "the price of everything went sky high."

The entire family subsisted on two cups of corn grits, and Bertha began shrinking — and then swelling — before his eyes.

"She was really bad. We put her in the helicopter and they brought her here," Augustin said. "I hope the government will hear about us and bring more support."

Holiday Shopping Help!

Here are some great tips from our friends at John Tesh's show, which you can hear every night at 7p on The Fish!

Thanksgiving's not even here yet, and you're already starting to stress about the holidays- sound familiar? Here's how to curb some of that- it's some holiday shopping intel:

Shop on a Monday- they're 60% quieter on Mondays, and if you get there when they open, you'll find the highest ratio of staff to customers.

If you hit a long checkout line, go to a lane next to a closed checkout lane. That way, if the lane opens up, you can move right over.

If you have no idea what to get someone, go to gifts.com/finder. It's a questionnaire that'll ask you about the recipient's personality and your price range, and the questionnaires cover all age and gender ranges.Less stress through the holidays, and everyone's glad you heard it on The John Tesh Radio Show!

Wonderful Story!

A friend emailed this to me...it is just beautiful, and a great reminder to be aware of how we might bless someone today.

Breakfast at McDonald's

I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree.

The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.' The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake, literally.

Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling'. His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched foracceptance. He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged.

As I held my tears I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If theywanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm). Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes. That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray. I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.' I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you. God is here working through me to give you hope.' I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.' We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.

That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love. I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand. I turned in 'my project' and the instructor read it. Then she looked up at me and said, 'Can I share this?' I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class. She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings share this need to heal people and to be healed. In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's, my son, instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student. I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn: UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE
