Fishfest

Fishfest Artist Hawk NelsonThank you for braving the 96 degree (!!!) heat yesterday at Verizon Wireless in Irvine and joining us for Fishfest! We had a great time meeting you, and we are so thankful that you support our events. Weren't all of the artists amazing??!! Some of the highlights for me were interviewing Jeremy Camp and hearing him talk about taking his little girls to Disney World...the smell of those yummy funnel cakes...talking to Leigh Nash from Sixpence None the Richer (she had the cutest cowboy boots on!) backstage and hearing how excited they were to be playing the show....watching my hubby rock out to Disciple....seeing Hawk Nelson come out with so much energy....meeting KJ-52 for the first time (he's from my hometown in Florida) and seeing him really connect with the crowd.....watching John Tesh tease Big Wave Dave about his sunburn....and crying while watching Jeremy Camp onstage talking about losing his 1st wife to cancer and what God has done in his life.
I would love to hear what YOU thought of the show--email me at lara@thefish959.com, and make sure you include any pics you took!

Winners at the GMA Dove Awards!!!

Casting Crowns
(from www.christianitytoday.com/music) As expected, repeat winners dominated most of the top categories for the 39th Annual GMA Dove Awards, which honors artists in Christian music. But the Gospel Music Association also remembered several previously unsung heroes during the ceremony, which was broadcasted live, in part, from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Casting Crowns claimed three awards, while frontman Mark Hall took home four more of his own.
Casting Crowns enjoyed their fourth consecutive win as Group of the Year, and picked up two more awards for Best Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year (The Altar and the Door) and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year ("East to West"). Because the latter category also recognizes the writer, frontman Mark Hall picked up two personalized Doves for "East to West," which was additionally named Song of the Year. Hall's participation on the multi-artist project Glory Revealed earned him two more individual awards for Special Event Album of the Year and Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year ("By His Wounds"), bringing his personal total to four.
"I'm a product of Christian music," said Hall as he mentioned a long list of respected winners from years past, including Third Day and Point of Grace. "Just to be [included] among all of them is kind of crazy."
It was a pair of three-peats for the Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, awarded to Chris Tomlin and Natalie Grant, respectively. "My microphone used to be my hairbrush," Grant said. "I pinch myself every day that I get to do what I love and get to sing about the God that I love."
The New Artist title went to Nashville native Brandon Heath, a singer/songwriter who now leads worship in Houston, Texas. Heath beat out some stiff competition from country bands 33Miles and Austins Bridge, American Idol finalist Mandisa, contemporary gospel singer DeWayne Woods, urban pop trio Group 1 Crew (which beat out the competition for Rap/Hip-hop album), and the band Rush of Fools, a perceived frontrunner because of the smash hit single "Undo."
The night's biggest trophy, Artist of the Year, went to tobyMac, who won the same award in 1996 as a member of dc Talk—his first win in the category as a solo artist after seven years. He also won artist and producer awards in Rock/Contemporary Album for Portable Sounds, plus one more for Short Form Music Video for "Boomin'."
TobyMac was awarded top honors as Artist of the Year—the first time he's won it since his days with dc Talk twelve years ago.
"I think my shoes are shining brighter than these joints," said tobyMac, pointing to his leopard-patterned Nikes while juggling his awards.

The song will be featured during the end credits of the film, and will appear on the Original Walt Disney Records Soundtrack CD releasing on May 13.
“We are so honored to be a part of the Prince Caspian film with ‘This Is Home,’” says Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman. “The Narnia stories have a really special place in my brother Tim and my lives. Our dad used to read these to us at bedtime when we were boys. Our imaginations were shaped on these amazing novels. "

National Start Walking Day

Just got this from my friend Roland...

After being frantic for filing taxes, maybe a walk might do our KFSH listeners some good! Celebrate National Start Walking Day today! Spend 30 minutes taking a walk during your workday.

I actually do take a walk during my lunch break, and it helps me to re-focus. During my walk, I spend time in prayer, which really puts back on track, especially during those hectic days.

The face of poverty in Jamaica: A single mom with a few young children.

A "bathroom." It is just a hole in the ground surrounded by metal from privacy.

The balloons were a big hit! We're standing in the doorway of the library in a village that FFP has built. The kids were so excited to have books to read!

A "kitchen." Most families simply have a pot or kettle and a firepit that they use to prepare meals.

From the Heart

Pastor Jeff Wenke and the Journey Church in San Jose, CA developed a fun way to support World Vision in AIDS-devastaed Limpopo, Zimbabwe! Inspired by the Monopoly board game, they printed up Luxury Tax cards and taxed themselves for "luxuries" like running water, cell phones, and even nights out on the town- things that people in Limpopo can only dream about. They raised over $25,000 in one month and sponsored 100 World Vision children! Listen to the story at http://www.fromtheheartradio.com/.

The Sheepfold

The Sheepfold offers safe refuge and a new beginning for abused women and their children. This is such a wonderful place! I"ve visited with the moms and kids, and it's the most amazing thing to hear little boys saying things like, "I learned how to take care of my family at The Sheepfold." One mom I met came from a very dangerous situation, and after being at The Sheepfold has come to know Christ, gotten her GED, and is now well on her way to a career in nursing. And miracles like this happen EVERY DAY at The Sheepfold! Keep an ear out for me talking about them on The Fish, and you can also visit them at www.thesheepfold.org or call 1-877-sheepfold.

South Coast Laser Center/Lasik Today

I had lasik a few years ago, and I still can't believe what a miracle it is!!! I was practially blind as a bat from about the age of ten, so I still get incredibly excited about being able to wake up and see perfectly without glasses or contacts. Dr. Michael Rose at South Coast Laser Center did my surgery, and I've been sending everyone I know to him. South Coast is joining with Lasik Today to offer more offices (with the same top-notch service), and they've got an awesome springtime special going: $1,000 off for both eyes! Give 'em a buzz at 1-888-laser-03 and ask for the Fish offer of $1,000 off for both eyes. Yay!
