GAS PUMPING TIPS

Just got these tips from one of our engineers...very interesting!

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS Here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon.. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning whenthe ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stationshave their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground themore dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buyingin the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly agallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and thetemperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and otherpetroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at thepumps. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzleto a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3)
stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on
low
speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are
pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping
on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes
vapor.. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground
storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank
is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY
. The reason for this is, the more gas you
have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline
evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an
internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the
gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the
evaporation. Unlike servicestations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperaturecompensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into thestorage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely thegasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and youmight pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Q: What should you wear to bed if you want to live to be 100 years old?
A: Socks! I heard this on The John Tesh Radio Show. Sleep experts say that putting on socks provides extra warmth to your feet, which improves circulation and gets your body ready for deep sleep. When you sleep deeply, your growth hormone kicks in and your body repairs itself. Congrats to Barbie from Huntington Beach, who won a 4-pack of Fishfest tix!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day reportedly began as a family day for Catholics in Ireland. They used to start the day with church services in the morning to honor their patron saint and usually a parade in the afternoon. In case you don’t know the story, St. Patrick was reportedly born in Roman Britain in 387 to a wealthy family. When Patrick was 16 years old, he was captured, taken to Ireland and sold into slavery. As a young man, Patrick wasn't very religious. However, while enslaved by the Irish Druids for six years, Patrick took to praying, learning the Celtic language and educating himself about Druidism.St. Patrick is known for having had visions and while praying, Patrick often received messages from angels. Those angels advised Patrick to flee from his master. Patrick listened to the angels and left. He traveled over 200 miles to a ship that returned him home to his family. After he was reunited with his family, he had another vision, this one told him to return to Ireland.Patrick heard those voices numerous times begging him to go back and teach the Druids about Christianity. Patrick then told his parents that he wanted to devote his life to teaching the word of God to his former captors. Patrick entered the seminary and eventually made his way back to Ireland. He spent 30 years in his mission and was extremely successful.St. Patrick was said to have used a shamrock to teach the meaning of the Trinity (Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit). Patrick also founded many churches throughout Ireland and watched over them until his death on March 17th, 493.

Home Sweet Home

Just got back from a few days with the family!!! It was so great to see my mom and dad, and I also got to spend some time with my sister, bro-in-law, and nephew in New Orleans. It was sunny but COLD, and we spent the whole day walking around the French Quarter, eating jambalaya and drinking that great coffee, and listening to incredible jazz. Here's little Fox in Jackson Square with a bouquet of balloon flowers he got from one of the street performers. He totally made me cry when he turned to me and said, "Auntie Lara, thank you for coming here to visit me."
