Cute New Book

Got this from Susan at Creative Resources...
Lara,

I thought you might be interested in this book in light of your interest in animals.

Have you ever own a cat or been around a cat that rejects every attempt of affection and care that you try to show it but when it needs food, water or comfort it's right there to be sweet, charming and affectionate? That's a tiny glimpse of how many of us respond to God.

Inspiration with a meow, Purr-ables from Heaven is a devotional for cat lovers, but will delight and touch any seeking heart. The authors share poignant, often funny, personal stories about the loved, willful and contradictory creatures we call cats and how they reflect our own foibles. Through transparent sharing they weave in their own life experiences and point us to a God who loves us, draws us to himself, cleanses and refines us, teaches us His ways, and reigns over us for our own good.

CATS-R-US
LEARNING FROM OUR FELINE FRIENDS

Los Angeles, Calif.—“There are many intelligent species in the universe. They are all owned by cats.” So goes one of the many jokes familiar to cat lovers. Over 37 million people in the United States happily fall into this category, owning approximately 90 million cats.

Cats are no joke to three California writers who have found a way to combine their love of cats, their true-life cat experiences with inspirational devotional stories. The authors of Four Paws from Heaven have parlayed a fresh litter of cat stories into—Purr-ables from Heaven: Devotions for Cat Lovers (Harvest House Publishers).

“We humans were born to have dominion over all other creatures and worship the Creator we share. But our kitties don’t always get that straight, and neither do we. Perhaps that’s what makes them such a marvelous mirror to reflect both our own foibles and God’s care and love for us in spite of them,” say coauthors M.R. Wells, Dottie P. Adams and Connie Fleishauer.

In Purr-ables from Heaven we are introduced to “endearing, exasperating, aloof, petulant and pliable” creatures such as Midnight, Barney, Misty, Merlin, Zeke, Leia, Wally and Milkshake. Using a premise that cats are a study in contradiction, the authors say we humans are also contradictory, willful creatures. “We are grateful to our kitties for giving us a glimpse of ourselves from God’s perspective and a window into His great love for and patience with us.”

The surprising and quirky reactions of cats allow us to see ourselves more clearly. Purr-ables from Heaven delightfully pulls the reader into the antics of full-of-personality feline characters. The authors transparently entwine their own personal experiences showing the reader how to curl up on “God’s lap,” that God will always provide what we need, how God’s people need each other, how fear scares off blessings, how caring builds trust, and how we can “lap up” God’s presence. The result is the discovery that God is drawing us to himself, that He stimulates our growth, cleanses and refines us, teaches us His ways, and reigns over us for our own good.

Humorous yes, entertaining yes, poignant sure, but these stories hit home, and leave lasting eternal lessons that won’t soon be forgotten. Not merely for the cat lover’s heart, but for anyone who has had to deal with fear, disappointment, anxiety, rejection or a lack of trust.
